Nichiren sect Matsubagaya Sacred Site Myohokekyo Mountain Ankokuronji Temple

Chief Priest Tomonori Hirai

Born in Saga Prefecture in 1963. Since 1992, he has been involved in international missionary work for the Nichiren sect.

He was active in Hawaii, California, and London, during which time he founded the British Buddhist Church, and served as director of the International Center, head priest of the Hawaii Nichiren Betsuin temple, head of the Hawaii Missionary District, president of the Hawaii Buddhist Federation, etc. He also served as vice president of the Hawaii Japanese School (Rainbow Gakuen).

After 26 years of overseas missionary work, he returned to Japan in 2018. He is currently the head priest of Ankokuronji Temple and a part-time lecturer at the Faculty of Buddhist Studies at Rissho University.
